Monthly Touch

Join Pam and Mari in this 1.5hr restorative practice while receiving hands-on assists. Two teachers, four hands... what could be better?

When you don’t get enough physical touch (sometimes called touch starvation) you can become stressed, anxious, or depressed. As a response to stress, your body makes a hormone called cortisol. When you engage in physical touch, like a hug, your brain releases a hormone called oxytocin. This makes you feel good and firms up emotional and social bonds while lowering anxiety and fear. $36

Eastern Philosophy

In this class, we examine the tenets of Eastern philosophy: namely that the body is an aspect of the natural world, connected to its energy and rhythms. What occurs in the natural world seasonally such as shifts in light, temperature, and weather, has a direct effect on the body physiologically. Ancient medicines focus on disease prevention and health maintenance rather than symptom and disease management.

We will discuss how East Asian medicine begins to assess the human body to maintain health and wellness. You will walk away with an understanding of the 5 elements according to Traditional Chinese Medicine and health and wellness tips to care for yourself at every season. $28 ONLINE

Ayurveda & The Doshas

Ayurveda & The Doshas

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that is over 3,000 years old. Combining physical, psychological and spiritual health, this system originated in India. The word Ayurveda is translated in English to the "Knowledge of Life". This is thought of as a sister science to yoga and focuses on how to keep our bodies in balance by understanding our own biological and constitutional tendencies (Doshas) and using that knowledge, self-awareness, and nature to remain in good health.

In this workshop, we will explore the system of Ayurveda and define the elements of each "Dosha" or constitution. Then, through a simple test, you will discover your personal Dosha and be able to examine how this concept applies to your own history. You will be given information based on this ancient wisdom on creating balance in your body, mind, and spirit as well as practical ways to implement this knowledge in your daily life. $35

This workshop is mostly lecture, dress comfortably.

8 Limbs: Dhyana & Samadhi

8 Limbs: Dhyana & Samadhi

DHYANA = meditative absorption

Dhyana is when we become completely absorbed in the focus of our meditation, and this is when we are really meditating. All the things we learn in a 60-minute class are merely techniques to help us settle, focus, and concentrate. The actual practice of meditation is not something we can actively do, rather it describes the spontaneous action of something that happens because of everything else.

SAMADHI = bliss or enlightenment

This is the final step in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. After we’ve re-organized our relationships with the outside world and our inner world, we come to the finale of bliss. Reaching Samadhi is not about escapism, floating away, or being abundantly joyful; it’s about realizing the very life that lies in front of us. The ability to ‘see equally’ and without disturbance from the mind, without our experience being conditioned by likes, dislikes, or habits, without a need to judge or become attached to any aspect; that is bliss.

This workshop will conclude with a 45min. guided meditation.

Qi Gong & Mudras

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers Qi (chi) to be your vital life force energy. Qi Gong is similar to yoga in many ways- both practices cultivate the movement of energy throughout the body using breathwork and meditation. 1000 Hands Buddha Qi Gong is a seated meditation using a series of mudras. This practice is a moving meditation that is great for students who struggle with sitting in stillness.

Mudras are hand and body gestures to facilitate moving Qi in a dedicated direction. $35/50

8 Limbs: Pranayama

Prana = life source or energy

Often described as the very essence that keeps us alive, as well as the energy in the universe around us.

Pranayama can mean ‘breath control’ or ‘breath restraint’. When we’re practicing Pranayama, we are learning how to control the breath. Each way of breathing will change our state of being, but it’s up to us as to whether we perceive this as ‘controlling’ the way we feel or ‘freeing’ ourselves from the habitual way our mind may usually be.

In this workshop will we practice/learn different breathing techniques to use during our physical (Asana) practice or to prepare the body and mind for meditation. Please dress comfortably but be prepared to move as we implement some of these techniques.

In this workshop, we will explore creative outlets to aid in our Meditation practice. Students will have the opportunity to create a mala bracelet and will receive coloring sheets and a handout to continue these practices at home.

MALA – Mala beads are a type of prayer and meditation bead. Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Catholicism all have a variation of prayer beads (‘worry beads’ or rosary). In today’s practice, most are used as a form of meditation without religious affiliation.

MANDALA – in Hindu and Buddhist faiths, mandalas are a symbolic diagram used in the performance of sacred rites and as an instrument of meditation.

COLORING – Coloring has been proven to calm the brain and help your body relax. Sitting down for a coloring session can be compared to a physical yoga practice (asana) as the same mind-body connection. All supplies will be provided.

Energetic Anatomy Pt. 2: Vibrational Models

As we learn to harness our energetic body, we come to understand that physical movement alone will not get us to our deepest depths of awareness. There are tools and techniques that give us direct access to the energetic body, and we can affect our flow in dynamic ways. This class will focus on three particular Nadis and the Chakras that align with them. We'll introduce elemental concepts, visual concepts (Yantra), breath exercise (Pranayama) and vibrational practice (Mantra). We can apply these powerful practices on their own or as an integrated part of your mat practice. $35

deep dive | 8 Limbs : Pratyahara & Dharana

What are the 8 Limbs of Yoga? Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, & Samadhi.

In this workshop, we will explore Pratyahara & Dharana.

Pratyahara is "withdrawal of the senses". Pratya = withdraw, draw in, or draw back. Ahara = anything we 'take in' to ourselves by sight, smell, & sounds.

The ancient practice of Pratyahara teaches us to become absorbed in what we are focusing on and frees us from distraction during meditation. This foundational practice, while applied to meditation in this instance, is also applicable to daily life today. How many of us struggle with distraction? By learning this wisdom and becoming aware of our wandering mind, we can begin to powerfully shift our thoughts to guide our life with intention.

Dharana means "focused concentration". Dha = holding or maintaining. Ana = other or something else.

In order to focus on something, our practice of Pratyahara becomes critical because how will we focus our consciousness on one particular object, place, thought or idea if we are unable to understand the withdrawal of the senses? These are crucial partners in meditation and can also inform our life and our ability to be in the present moment. $35

This workshop is mostly lecture, dress comfortably.
